Knowledge Bowl:The Knowledge Bowl team won the 2A division of the regional competition in Spokane on Friday ,3/1/13. They won the right to participate in the State tournament in Arlington on March 23. The team members included Liz Guzman, captain, plus Sarah Baik, Katy Akmal, Priyanka Muhunthan, Robby Handy, Matt Larson, and Daisy Ward. Please congratulate these students on a fine job!
We are pleased to announce that the Pullman High School Band and Orchestra have joined our Fall state champions Girls’ Soccer and Boys’ Cross Country as WIAA/Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires 2A Academic State Champions. The 57 member Orchestra earned an accumulative GPA of 3.795. The 37 member band earned a 3.540 GPA. Both programs will be honored with a date plaque in the gym with all of our Academic State Champions from the past. In addition, each will receive a plaque from the WIAA for their awards’ cases. By winning the state championship, each earned 100 points toward the WIAA Scholastic Cup which recognizes both athletic and academic achievement. Currently PHS is in 3rd place out of 64 2A schools. Congratulations to Katharine Covill and Nick Courtnage and all of our orchestra and band students for this fine accomplishment.
This is the eleventh time in twelve years that Pullman has won the regional competition,even though the “region” has changed three times. Most members of the current teams got their start playing in the middle school competitions at Lincoln Middle School.

PHS does well in the new Inland Northwest Science Bowl competition in Spokane. Team Pullman One, with Mitchell Tang, Vishaka Muhunthan, Rachit Singh, Vivek Jayaram, and Jimmy Yin took first place, winning an all-expenses-paid trip to the national competition in Washington DC at the end of April. Both other Pullman teams advanced to the elimination tournament as well. Other participants included Frederick Chen, Malte Lange, Jaeyoung Heo, Aneesh Pappu, Alexander Schulze-Makuch, Wendoline Mercado-Rojano, Moritz Lange, Yilun Du, Katy Akmal, Henry Zhang, Stephanie Her, SoohHo Hwang, Priyanka Muhunthan, Robby Handy, Miya Spencer, Louisa Reilly, and Shiyue Wang.
This will be the tenth year (of eleven participation) that Pullman has been the regional champions.
Sydney Reynolds, a junior at Pullman High School won the Washington State American Legion Constitutional Oratorical Contest! She will be going on to represent the state of Washington at the national contest in Indianapolis, Indiana! She will receive a $3,500 college scholarship for winning state and going to compete at Nationals!
Pullman FFA Agriculture Sales Team won 1st place in the district competition. This win qualifies them for the state competition in May. KT McMurray (1st place individual),Sydney Reynolds (3rd place individual),Mandy Lehmitz (4th place individual),Ashley ReisenauerPullman High School students competed in their first Regional DECA competition at Spokane Falls Community College on 12/14/11with over 700 students and 17 schools from the Spokane Region. Of our eight state qualifiers, Jake Staniszewski finished 1st place in the region, Shantara Pintak finished 2nd place in the region, and Tayler Whitehead and Jenna Metzer finished 3rd place in the region.
DECA members compete in a variety of events which include categories such as food marketing, retail merchandising, sports and entertainment marketing, business law and ethics, travel and tourism and hospitality. Members present projects, complete role plays and test their overall business and marketing knowledge and skills.
PHS MATH TEAM Fall Start-Up Event 2011: RESULTS Twenty members of the PHS Math Team participated on September 22 in a mail-in math competition called the Fall Start-Up Event, earning a 7th place finish in the national standings.KT McMurray, Maja Olson, Ashley Reisenauer, Sydney Reynolds.
Also, our varsity livestock judging team placed 2nd at the Puyallup Fairs out of over 60 teams!
